Grandma Smith's Crochet - "Eva" pattern - Bedspread, Tablecloth, or Chair Tidy Motif

This motif must be made in multiples that are sewn together to make a bedspread or tablecloth.  Sewing them together permits repairs in the future, so don't be tempted to crochet the motifs together

The following are all worked in rounds, without turning the work. When working a sc into a sc of the previous row, work into the back loop (the one farthest from you) only. This keeps the piece from curling upward into a bowl shape. The example was made with KnitCroSheen (cotton, size 10), and steel crochet hook size 6/1.6mm.

R1: ch 5, join to 1st ch with sl st, to make a circle.
R2: (ch 6, 1 sc into ring) 4 times (this makes 4 loops around the center, like a daisy.
R3: (ch 6, 3 sc into next lp) 4 times around
R4: (ch 6, 3 sc into next lp, 2 sc in first 2 sc) 4 times around
R5: (ch 6, 3 sc into next lp, 4 sc in first 4 sc) 4 times around
R6: (ch 6, 3 sc into next lp, 6 sc in first 6 sc) 4 times around
R7: (ch 6, 3 sc into next lp, 8 sc in first 8 sc) 4 times around
R8: (ch 6, 3 sc into next lp, 10 sc in first 10 sc) 4 times around
R9: (ch 6, 3 sc into next lp, 12 sc in first 12 sc) 4 times around
R10: (ch 6, 1 sc in next lp, ch 6, sk 1 sc, 13 sc in next 13 sc) 4 times around
R11: (ch 6, 1 sc in next lp, ch 6, 1 sc in lp, ch 6, sk 1 sc, 11 sc in next 11 sc) 4 times around
R12: (ch 6, 1 sc in next lp, ch 6, 4 dc in lp, ch 6, 1 sc in lp, ch 6, sk 1 sc, 9 sc in next 9 sc) 4 times around
R13: (ch 6, 1 sc in next lp, ch 6, 3 sc in next lp, now move these 3 sc stitches forward against the 4-dc of the row below, ch 3, sk the 4 dc, 3 sc in next lp, keeping the first of these sc against the 4dc below. (For the next couple of rounds, each time you go around the 4-dc cluster, you will snug the stitches before and after the 4-dc toward the 4-dc cluster, making a symmetrical corner.), ch 6, 1 sc in next lp, ch 6, sk 1 sc, 7 sc in next 7 sc) 4 times around
R14: (ch 6, 1 sc in next lp, ch 6, 3 sc in next lp, ch 10, sk the lp that arches over the 4-dc and 3 sc in the next lp, ch 6, 1 sc in next lp, ch 6, sk 1 sc, 5 sc in next 5 sc) 4 times around
R15: (ch 6, 1 sc in next lp, ch 6, 3 sc in next lp, ch 6, 4 dc in next lp, ch 6, 3 sc in next lp, ch 6, 1 sc in next lp, ch 6, sk 1 sc, 3 sc in next 3 sc) 4 times around, fasten off.

Make many of these motifs and join together in any way desired (sewing or crocheting), possibly alternating with fabric squares that have been hemmed by folding edge over once and sc around the edge to bind. This joining can be done “as you go” by paying attention on the last round of the motif and slip stitching the crochet to the corresponding points on adjacent motifs on the outermost arches
