I purchased this woolen tam in a thrift store.  I love it.  It fits well and is beautiful.  I decided to try to write down the pattern:

Dimensions:

Flattened, it is 10” in diameter; Turned over, the head opening is 5” in diameter; garter st rim is 2.5” deep measured from the ribbing. The Aran pattern is 3" deep; 8" in diameter when flattened.  The center stockinette disk is 2" diameter

Gauge: Garter st – 16 sts= 4”, 11 purl rows (22 rows)=3”

Directions:

Cast on: 76

Ribbing:

In the round: 8 rows of ribbing made by repeating the following 2 rows, 4 times: (76 sts, when done) (ribbing is 1.25” in depth):

  R1: (K1, Ptbl)*

  R2:  (Ktbl, P1)*

Place 8 markers, evenly spaced, repeat the following 2 rows 4 times (76 + 32 = 108 sts when done):

  R1: K, increasing(make 1 right) at each marker

  R2: P

Begin pattern below for the crown, beginning at the bottom right. When worked up, it is 3” in depth.

When done with the above you have 13 x 4 sts = 52

Work successive decreases as follows:

(K2tog, K1)* for one round (35)

K2tog* for one round (17)

K2tog* for one round (9)

K2tog* for one round (5)

Close the final round by breaking the yarn and running through the 4 loops a couple of times, then weaving end in.

Make dense pompom, 2" in diameter.

Underside of hat.
